xkcd Forums Bingo: Week 5

#914 - Ice
A good distribution of squares. Two almost-lines. E4 made its fourth consecutive appearance. Of course, A1 and E5 were practically guaranteed given the incoherence of the comic. Too bad we haven't seen Glasnt and Joee in a while.

We had an appearance from the rare A4 square. "Jeebus crêpes -- onto the second page of comments and nobody's mentioned inverse snobbery?" Well, cream wobbly, you were the first to mention it. Congratulations, your post concerning the matter will be immortalized in this bingo square.

#916 - Unpickable
Pff, a largely uniteresting thread, with people mostly bragging about their security systems and discussing the technicalities of 5x5x5 rubiks cubes.

Maybe one day the forumites will explain why.

  1. I never understood the Glasnt/Joee thing, are they trolls or just two particularly annoying forum-goers?

  2. They are just two forum-goes, who like saying hi to each other when they post in the same thread. Although I prefer this explanation:

"The hi Joee thing goes way back. Back in the days of the Cold War, American secret service personnel has to be very careful about how they approached and contacted one another in public, the codename normally chosen was "Joe" being a very All-American name by which one could identify with any covert agent by saying "Hi Joe". Obviously this alone isn't enough to ensure the other person isn't just called Joe so the typical response would be "Hi Glasnt". The origin of glasnt has been broadly discussed, some people think it's short hand for "glad the country hasn't been attacked" or derived from the acronym "Generally low activity seriousness, no threats". At any rate, the phrase became something of a meme amongst former secret service/intelligence members as the codeword fell out of use but was held onto for nostalgia's sake. As for Joee and Glasnt on the forums, if you think they're just some kids trawling around on here reading comics, it's time to wake up and see how far down the rabbit hole goes..."

  3. I realized that getting A3 and A4 in the same post will be extremely difficult. What I think I'll do is make A3 first, then wait a bit and edit my post in with A4, E2, and E3. That way nobody will screw with my post before I make the edit...

Also, I think I'll actually break some stupid rule, rather than just write in red text. I can't do the "no links in the first x posts" rule, as that number will have undoubtedly been surpassed by then. I'll have to look into the rulebook to see which ones are worthwhile...

  4. I would like you to know, I have prepared a special animated GIF for when all 25 squares are ticked off. It will be a momentous occasion.

Maybe if it is successful the first time, we can make a game of it, where other people can make posts to try and get a full bingo score.

  5. Then that would totally make E4 true.

  6. Also, whatever Wednesday's comic is, I won't be able to do it for it. Not a big deal, but I felt like I missed my chance with the nuke comic— that would have been perfect.

  7. The new comic is ridiculously simple and unfunny. No post.

  9. Yo, is the entire xkcdsucks meta-community trolling me? Or have I finally found a way to freeze the Internet?

  10. Keep posting, Leahcim. I don't want this blog to be mired in the Sea of Zero (0) Comments.
